Bentley Reveals The Batur Mulliner, No Words Needed
Auto News

Bentley has raised their game to new levels with the launch of the ultra-limited edition Batur Mulliner. The Batur’s origin story is forged from the Continental GT. Bentley’s bespoke coachbuilding division then gets to work to create this wonderful thing. The Batur’s design language is simple yet perfectly proportioned, two aspects of automotive design that are difficult to get right. Indeed the exterior design language is classic and contemptoary yet somehow timeless. Without going into detail, Bentley’s exterior design team has really nailed it.

Just 18 Mulliner Batur’s will ever be made, each one will cost £1.6M before bespoke client privileges are taken into account. All 18 models are sold out. The Batur is as much an investment as it is a luxury indulgent for its ultra-wealthy clientele. Expect the price to double before the first car is even delivered.

Bentley Mulliner Batur - what a beauty

Created by Director of Design Andreas Mindt and his team, the Batur is a showcase of a new design DNA that will ultimately guide the design of Bentley’s future range of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The Batur is named after a volcanic crater lake found in Indonesia.

The Batur will also be the most powerful Bentley yet, with a 740+ PS, 1,000Nm  version of the iconic, hand-assembled 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine. The Batur rides on unique 22” wheels, with the ‘standard’ option being painted in Black Crystal and then surface bright machined and polished.

The latest iteration of the W12 is said to offer 40% more power while fuel economy has improved by 25%. The engine is paired with an eight-speed double-clutch transmission, the 3D-printed in titanium sports exhaust is a first for Bentley.

Bentley’s engineers have tweaked the power output of the W12 to achieve such performance figures. Nevertheless, time is no longer an endless luxury for the W12, for it is entering an engineering end game. This game is one that will see future Bentleys take the pathway to full full electrification and a final planned eventual death. Future Bentley’s will be powered by electric motors and battery packs.

Bentley Mulliner Batur - Interior design

Bentley claims the Batur is the most advanced chassis they have created to date. The Batur features speed-tuned air suspension, electric active anti-roll control, eLSD, four-wheel steering and torque vectoring.

The Batur is strictly a two-seat grand coupe. Every element of the cabin is tailored to the customer’s specifications. Clients can choose from a variety of sustainable interior materials, including, low-carbon leather sourced from Scotland, and sustainable tannage leather from Italy, in five different colours. And finally Dinamica, an alternative suede-like sustainable material to leather.

The Bentley Batur Mulliner will debut at Monterey Car Week, and customer deliveries will begin in mid-2023 after an extensive development programme.
