BMW 1 Series Receives Minimalistic Updates
Auto News
The 1 Series has been a good investment for BMW, two million sold and counting, so pleased are BMW they have decided to give the rear-wheel hatch another face-lift for three and five door versions. The external changes are purely cosmetic the front and rear essentially borrow the current headlight and bumper design from the recent 2 Series Coupe overhaul. The engine line up has been downsized and the four cylinder range is now joined by three-cylinder engines which are also used in the new Mini Hatch. BMW-1-Series-2015-Profile The BMW 1 Series is offered in three trims – SE, Sport and M Sport. Standard equipment is suspiciously generous and includes remote control central locking, keyless engine ignition, electric window controls, electrically heated exterior mirrors and the Driving Experience Control switch. It doesn’t end there also included is automatic air conditioning, a multi-function leather steering, a rain sensor including automatic driving lights control. BMW Radio Professional including CD player with DAB, six loudspeakers and an AUX-In socket, and Bluetooth audio streaming functionality along with the iDrive operating system. Completing the offer is 16-inch alloy wheels, extended storage, sliding front armrest and fog lights. BMW-1-Series-2015-Interior Optional extras include M Aerodynamic body styling, M Sport suspension, Sport seats, Alcantara upholstery and an M Sport leather steering wheel. But this isn’t a sales brochure and if you want to find out about the cost lets just say its going to slap you in the face. And when you have finished its going to slap even harder with the cost. The three cylinder 116d is expected to be the main bread winner for the range, the inclusion of BMW’s Efficient Dynamics technology means a combined economy of 64mpg and just 86g/km of C02. And you also get a rather Spritely 114bhp and 270Nm of torque. The BMW 118i and BMW 120i are both powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine. It develops 136hp and 170hp respectively, and is able to do the 0-62mph dash in 7.2 seconds in the 120i and with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of just 52.3mpg and 125g/km in the 118i. The four-cylinder engine in the 125i features a 2.0-litre displacement, providing 218hp and peak torque of 310Nm, enabling a 0-62mph time of just 6.2 seconds. BMW-1-Series-2015-Profile No BMW series is complete without a powerful all seeing performance version, the M135i with its turbocharged straight-six engine now has increased power, 326hp, with peak torque of 450Nm, enabling a 0-62mph time of just 4.9 seconds, yet the ability to return a claimed 37.7mpg.
