VW Reveal Cross Coupe GTE Concept
Auto News
Volkswagen have unveiled their Cross Coupe GTE at the 2015 North American Auto Show. So why are VW making such a noise about this concept as though it  is THE definitive concept too end all concepts. VW may sell 10M vehicles a year but in the important American market the company has struggled. There is no viable VW SUV that appeals to the Americans. Americans like their SUVs big and cheap and they buy them by the bucket load. VW hopes a derivative of the Cross Coupe GTE will finally gain it a secure sales foot hold in the region and reverse the current malaise. VW-Cross-Coupe-GTE-Concept-Profile The Cross Coupe GTE is a refinement of the 2013 CrossBlue Concept and when the production version is ready it will be built at VW’s US plant by the end of 2016, it will measure just under 5 meters long. The SUV market is strong in the US, VW is going to where Americas heart and purse string lies and the Cross Coupe GTE will be very much an SUV aimed at American tatses. Powering the Cross Coupé GTE is a 3.6-litre V6 petrol hybrid, the six-cylinder direct-injection engine (FSI) delivers 280 PS and maximum torque of 350 Nm, while the two electric motors deliver 40 kW and 220 Nm (front) and 85 kW and 270 Nm (rear). VW-Cross-Coupe-GTE-Concept-Rear   Lithium-ion batteries are housed in the central tunnel, with energy content of 14.1 kWh.  The total output of the drive system is 360 PS, and using this full power, the Cross Coupé GTE, which has a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h), accelerates to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds. The Cross Coupé GTE can be driven in five different power modes: E-Mode, Hybrid, GTE, Offroad and Battery Hold / Battery Charge. The Cross Coupe GTE can manage 20 miles in pure electric drive mode. The interior will have the latest in car infotainment system which is centered around a 10.1 inch touchscreen interface while the instrument binnacle is fully digital. VW-Cross-Coupe-GTE-Concept-Interior Will the Cross Coupe GTE look like the concept? well sometimes concepts make into production unchanged. Sometimes these concepts have already been approved for production and when they reach a motorshow stand the car maker may still want to refer to it as a concept, in order to take advantage of the publicity in the hope to encourage sales. We’ll know for sure when the Cross Coupe GTE or at least a derivative version begins production at the end of 2016.  VW-Cross-Coupe-GTE-Concept-Front
