Alonso To Miss First Race For McLaren Honda In Australia
Formula One
Fernando Alonso will miss the opening race of the 2015 formula One Season. The McLaren driver crashed at high speed during a pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on February 22nd and suffered concussion as a result. Alonso made the decision based on medical advise, doctors have told him he should miss the opening race in Australia to avoid risking a second concussion. Alonso’s seat will be filled by reserve driver Kevin Magnussen. Alonso said it was a tough decision, tweeting, “It will be tough not to be in Australia, but I understand the recommendations.” adding ” A second impact in less than 21 days “NO” Alonso crashed at around 133mph hitting a retaining wall and suffering two knocks to his head. He was airlifted to hospital where he remained for three days. After extensive medical tests doctors were able to form an opinion that Alonso suffered “no medical issues and was entirely healthy from neurological and cardiac perspectives alike”. Despite this doctors have told Alonso he should minimise any physical stress to reduce the risk of suffering a secondary concussion because a secondary concussion is likely to occur before the individual has recovered from the first. Alonso has already recorded a video confirming he is fine, and the Spaniard may be wise to take heed of the advise. McLaren expect Alonso to be fitting fit by March 29th in time for the Malaysian GP.  Fernando-Alonso-McLaren
