Audi will head over to the annual Worthersee festival with a 600PS (591bhp in old money) TT monster. The 650Nm ‘powerlifter’ is capable of covering 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 192mph. OK so were getting used to seeing cars with ridiculous levels of power however this Audi TT concept may well be future proof. The 2.5-litre, five-cylinder engine uses an electric bi-turbo compressor to generate all that power, torque is instantly available say Audi. In other words turbo lag has been eradicated. “The electric biturbo signifies a new dimension in driving enjoyment; it boosts sprinting ability and torque and enables high peak power,” explains Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi Board Member for Technical Development. The Worthersee car festival used to be a little known, mass drunken gathering and celebration of all things VW and Audi. Today it is a well known, mass drunken gathering of all things VW and Audi, an ideal hunting ground for marketing and PR campaigns. Audi  say the e-turbo is close to production readiness, not that anyone at the Worthersee festival will notice because everyone will most probably be downing gallons of Germanic beer. Will Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg be joining in? he’s sticking to the corporate line “In our TDI engines, we are close to production readiness with this 9e-turbo) technology. We are now presenting it in a TFSI – here too, we are the first automaker in the world to do this. For our fans at Wörthersee, we have packaged the electric biturbo in a very sporty show car.” The TT concept has also shed a load of weight and weighs in at around 1,396kg, that’s considered lightweight for a modern performance car. Being a show car Audi have made sure the TT Concept has visual appeal. Its actually a visually tweaked version of the standard TT, lets say a coachbuilt concept with a wider stance, vertical side air scoops and a ridiculous large rear wing. The interior also includes a roll-over cage and lightweight bucket seats, but everything else remains pretty much the same. If you want to see the Audi TT concept up close and personal then you are going to have to head on down to the Worthersee festival which is on between May 13-16 somewhere in Austria. Or you can read this and drink beer at the same time, that’s essentially the Worthersee experience.
