The haters are always gonna hate, as the old saying goes and there seemed to be plenty of bad blood for Kimi Raikkonen, at least among the F1 press who believed that the Finn was on his last legs and was about to be given his marching orders by Ferrari. But even Raikkonen, a fan favorite, will raise a smile at the news he will be driving for the Scuderia again for another year at least. This puts an end to the speculation about the speculation, otherwise known as the ‘silly season’. Ferrari can now get on with concentrating on the remainder of this season proper. Journalists too can now concentrate on focusing on developing another rumor mill to ramp up with endless speculation, its what they do to fill the time when there is no actual news to write about. Ferrari released a statement confirming Raikkonen for 2016 late today and it was as unassuming and straight to the point, as if Kimi had written it himself. Team principle Maurizio Arrivabene said; “Scuderia Ferrari announces that it has renewed its technical and racing agreement with Kimi Raikkonen. The driver line-up next season will still consist of the Finnish driver and Sebastian Vettel.” And that was that, all wrapped up concisely and without drama. It doesn’t matter how much Ferrari are paying Kimi or if he has taken a pay cut or any other speculative speculation, What matters is the fans favorite will be here for another year, in what will probably be his final stint for Ferrari. What happens after 2016 is any one’s guess. Expect the speculation to begin early… sigh…
