Humble VW Tiguan Steals The Show At Frankfurt
Auto News

Its hard to believe but we reckon the all new Volkswagen Tiguan may well be the surprise star of the 2015 Frankfurt Motorshow. Unlike a Porsche 911 the Tiguan is all new, yes it shares VW’s stock engineering underbelly but we really like the look of this new sharper generation over the previous incarnation.

The Tiguan has sold near 3m units since it was first introduced in 2007, so a much needed refresh was in dire need. As with all new car releases the usual claims are being made, 25 percent improved efficiency, its bigger so that means more interior space.

Vw-Tiguan-2015-ProfileBoot capacity is… we don’t really care but trust us its bigger. Much of the pervious generation’s engine lineup will be carried over, the four diesel units which includes a 1.6-litre TDi, and three power variants of the 2.0-litre TDi are now EU6 compliant.

Petrol variants will be made up of a by now familiar line up, the two turbocharged units include a 1.4-litre TSFi and the new 2.0-litre TFSi. Its front-wheel drive only for lower spec models and 4-wheel drive for the higher spec models.

For anyone with aspirations to go off-roading VW have provided the Tiguan with the muscle to do so in the form of the “off-road package”.

Also making its debut is the Tiguan GTE Concept its a plug-in petrol electric hybrid already in use in other VW cars. The power unit combines the 1.4-litre TFSi, 154bhp engine with an electric motor.

VW say the Tiguan GTE is good for a claimed range of 575 miles and can travel around 30 miles in full electric mode. Power is rated at 215bhp and VW claim fuel consumption is good for 149mpg. In the real world its about 40mpg VW.

But we won’t argue with the validity of the CO2 figure which is rated as 42g/km

No price, release date or UK availability has been mentioned expect first deliveries by next year… at a wild guess.
