Using Muscle Cars To Land The Lockheed U-2 Spy Plane
Video

The Lockheed U-2, or “dragon Lady” as it is nicknamed is an ultra high altitude US spy plane that first entered service in 1957 during the first phase of the Cold War era. It is still listed as being in service and provides all weather, day and night intelligence gathering from altitudes as high as 13 miles. That’s crawling into the edge of space and the pilots are actually refereed to as astronauts.

The issue with the U-2 is that its quite difficult to land and so requires a second set of eyes when it comes to landing what essentially is a rocket powered glider.

Back up vehicles consist of some of America’s most seasoned muscle cars from the 20th Century to the 21st.
