Force india Could Be Re-Branded As Aston Martin
Formula One
The last time an Aston Martin was seen competing in the Formula One championship was way back in the 20th Century, 1959 to be specific. However Aston Martin want to make a return to the sport, in what would be a name only return. The Marketing experts call this re-branding and the team Aston Martin are hopeful of convincing are Force India. Team owner, businessman Vijay Mallya, is open to the idea but only if Aston Martin stump up an agreeable fee to make any potential deal viable. Mallya said: “If tomorrow someone comes and offers me a good sum of money for title sponsorship, I’ll seek the team name,” Aston Martin aren’t exactly flowing with cash right now, sales of its road cars are down and that means operating profits have also taken a hit. Combine this with the fact that Aston Martin is an independent sports carmaker under the control of a group of venture capitalists then it all means funds are relativity tight. But the potential to see an Aston Martin branded F1 car is still an enticing prospect as Force India’s team principle, Bob Fernly, “Two things: one is I think it’s a shareholder issue and is a discussion [that is ongoing] with Vijay and secondly it is still a little way off. It’s got to be credit to the team that they are attracting such a great brand as Aston, even if it is just for discussions.” Mallya was more cautious saying: “If the marque (Aston Martin) comes along and I have to change the team name, I have to look at what it does for the team in terms of profile. It’s premature to talk about it now, but we’re talking.”  Force-India-Aston-Martin
