GT Racer Survives Massive Crash, His 458 GT3 Doesn’t
Uncategorized
OK so this is the FFSA GT Championship, a GT3 endurance racing series held in France. Last weekend one competitor was attempting to overtake another at speed at the Circuit de Nogaro. The two touched slightly but at speeds of over 140mph a slight touch is amplified by order of magnitude. And so it was the case for Sacha Bottemanne who tried unsuccessfully to take 7th place in his 458 GT3 but did successfully clip a fellow 458 GT3 competitor and slam head on into a concrete crash barrier. The energy of the impact was a powerful demonstration that motor racing of any type is always dangerous. With modern day safety cells Bottemanne was able to walk or in this case limp away from the incident. Although he had to extricate himself by climbing out of the front window. The front section of the 458 GT3 was destroyed but at least Bottemanne lives and limps to survive another day.
