Amazon Prime, the instant video on demand internet service, has revealed what Jeremy Clarkson’s new motoring show will be called. The Grand Tour. You should know by now the reason why Clarkson was technically not sacked from the BBC. The BBC simply decided not to renew Clarkson’s contract after ‘that’ incident.
Amazon Prime scooped up Clarkson who was quickly joined by former Top Gear cohorts Richard Hammond and James May.
Amazon awarded Clarkson and co £160 million GBP to create a new motoring show spanning the next 3 years.
So now you can watch The Grand Tour and see how Clarkson, Hammond and May are spending all that money.
The Grand Tour is scheduled to be streamed (note we didn’t say broadcast) later on in the year and will ditch the pre-recorded studio format Clarkson and co used for Top Gear.
In a unique twist each episode of The Grand Tour will be streamed from inside a giant tent in different location from around the world.
However the format of the show will follow the same formula Clarkson, Hammond and May used for Top Gear. Essentially three blokes mucking around in cars.
The new show will also be offering up tickets for fans to attend the tent events via a lottery sweepstake, though we’re not entirely sure how it will work.
It isn’t clear how many users the Amazon Prime streaming service has, but the old days of broadcasting is being being challenged by the likes of Amazon Prime, Netflix et-al.
The Grand Tour moniker can actually trace its naming origins back to the 16th Century where mainly upper-class European men would embark on travels across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Clarkson said of the name that it is a reference to GT cars, however it’s also Top Gear spelt backwards.
Clarkson really can’t leave his old show behind. Maybe that £160m budget might help him forget.
