There was a time in around the 1930’s when Germany wanted to model themselves on the British. Yes there really was a time when the Germans wanted to be more British. Fortunately we, let us say, managed to persuade them not to. You see Britain had an Empire, but in the early part of the 20th Century it was slowly crumbling.
The short story is Germany may have lost the first half of the 20th Century but in the end they won the most important half. They won more football world cups and they also won the race to become Europe’s economic powerhouse.

But the Germans never lost that desire to be more British. It is true the British have inspired many a nation including Dutch sportscar maker Donkervoort and the D8 GTO-RS represents the latest European nation to borrow a few cues from the classic British open top sports car, the Lotus Seven.
Donkervoort’s moto is “no compromise” which roughly translated means no reliance on electronic driver aids such as traction control.

The GTO-RS has taken two years of design, development and testing. The engine is sourced from Audi, a 2.5-litre R5 TFSi, which has be re-tuned for better drive-ability.
While the interior is simple and shy of creature comforts the materials used are to a high standard.

The D8 GTO-RS has no performance stats to speak of, but as its based on the D8 GTO which has 380bhp expect the RS edition to gain an increase of between 30-40bhp and more speed.
We do know of a few stats, the D8 GTO-RS will be limited to 40 examples, 21 have already found new owners with production yet to begin. Prices start at 151,000 euros.
