Will Skoda Retail The Kodiaq SUV For £22k Or Will Pigs Fly?
Auto News
OK so you know that all manufactures are scrambling to join the SUV bandwagon why? because consumers are apparently flocking to buy compact, mid-sized and up scaled SUV’s. Skoda’s all new Kodiaq mid-sized SUV is based on the generic VW platform and the cynically minded have pointed out that it is essentially a stretched Tiguan. It would also be a stretch of the imagination for Skoda to consider selling all of this ‘hunk of junk’ for a little over £22k. But that’s exactly the price point Skoda are touted to sell the entry level Kodiaq model according to speculative commentary. If that is the case then the Kodiaq will undercut it’s rivals by a gig margin and it may also have a Coupe version joining the model line up, a-la Range Rover Evoque, in around two-three years time. Retail sales will start in Q1 2017 and by then a new generation Yeti will be in development as well as a smaller mini-SUV. Initially two diesel engines will be available, expected to be the 2.0-litre TDi in 148bhp and 187bhp power variants. The 1.4-litre petrol engine is expected to be available in 123bhp and 148bhp variants and will sit alongside the 2.0-litre, 178bhp TFSi petrol engine. Expect the Kodiaq to fully loaded with the latest driver safety assists, technology and most importantly kerb-side appealing 21-inch alloys. Optional of course. But the real question is this, is the £22k price point realistic or is it jut media speculation based hype created directly from the source, that source being Skoda it self. Only time will tell but Skoda will confirm these speculations later this year.  skoda-Pigs-Will-Fly
