One of the most important steps of all is to determine what you actually need to take with you and try to figure out where you can get your hands on those goods. There are a huge number of potential supplies that you might find necessary if you want to get the most out of your road trip experience, and it is well worth making a list to ensure that you do not miss anything out. Remember, above all, all the emergency supplies which you might need. This means items such as a first aid kit, spare tyre for the car, and food for the journey. You should also pack some warm things to sleep in, just in case. A good rule of thumb is to pretend as though you might get stuck somewhere and have nowhere to sleep except for the car. That way, if the worst does happen, you are as prepared as possible.
Should You Drive Your Car?
You also need to choose which transport you are going to use, and there is a chance here that you won’t want to drive your own car. It depends on what car you have, of course, and whether you think it is wise. But many people, rather than risk damaging their own car, choose to take alternative car transport instead. You can hire a vehicle, and do your road trip, and then return it again, and you might find that it is a much more enjoyable time this way. Then again, you might decide that the comfort of your own car is best. Again, it’s entirely up to you.
Plan Your Route
While it is possible to take a road trip without knowing where you are going, it is not advised. There might be a certain excitement to it, yes, but the chances are you will feel safer – and enjoy it more – if you plan your route ahead of time instead. When you are planning the route, make sure that you include any potential delays or other problems which might affect the route. It is also wise to always have a few back up routes, just in case something unplanned throws you off. And remember that you should always carry your map – it might be best if one person is in charge of the map-reading throughout the trip, although you could of course swap it round instead.
