Green Gadgets To Improve Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency
Features
Fuel efficiency is becoming more of a thing to boast about. No longer are we buying gadgets to improve the top speeds of our vehicle (with the growing amount of speed cameras what’s the point?). Instead we’re all now modding our cars with devices to improve out fuel economy.  If you’re trying to reduce your carbon footprint, cut expensive fuel costs or simply challenge the miles per gallon of your neighbours, here are some nifty contraptions that’ll have you filling up less often. Kiwi This scan tool can help you keep on top of your fuel consumption by reading the smoothness of your driving. It can measure how often you brake, how sharply or slowly you accelerate, and give you a readout as to whether you’re driving economically enough (it contains a series of green to red bars with the idea to stay as green as possible). On top of this, the Kiwi even has in-built tutorials to get you driving more smoothly.    Tyre pressure monitor Keeping your tyres pumped up can drastically lower your fuel bill, with a 9% drop in tyre pressure increasing your consumption by 5%. A pressure monitor (such as this one safe-t-tyre.com.au) is the ideal tool for this, preventing the need to step outside your car and check your tyres manually. Happily inflated tyres can also improve other aspects of your car’s performance such as your grip and braking distance, so if you want to stay safe (or handle round those sharps bends more easily), a pressure monitor could be just gadget for you.     Vacuum gauge Warning – it’s time to get technical. These clever devices have been around for some time and whilst some cars have them already built in, many don’t. Vacuum gauges help lower the pressure during moments of high fuel consumption, such as when your car is idly ticking over at the traffic lights or during moments of wide-open throttle driving. Hooked into the manifold with some tubing, this device helps you to cut down on needless fuel loss during such moments. If you’re handy under a car bonnet, you may be able to insert one yourself. Alternatively, a mechanic can get one fitted in less than an hour. Nissan eco-pedal One sure way to help you become a more feather footed driver is to buy an eco-pedal. Nissan’s version is the most notable and works by gently pushing against your foot every time you accelerate too aggressively. This may be an annoying feature to some drivers, but for others it can work as a great learning tool, teaching you to accelerate efficiently so that even when you drive another vehicle without the pedal you’ll naturally apply more gentle pressure. The device can be turned on and off too so that in extreme weather conditions or an emergency situation you still can still give it that extra hit of gas without your safety being compromised.
