Mercedes Ask Customers To Play Russian Roulette As It Recalls 1m Vehicles Over Fire Risk
Industry News
If you bought or contract hired a Mercedes in the last three years then it could be a potential fire risk. Mercedes aren’t taking any risks and have issued a mass worldwide recall due to the risk of fire. If you think the risk is low even 1 car catching fire is to high out the 1 million sold during the period between 2015-2017. It is reported that 51 Mercedes have caught fire due to a defective fuse. In the UK market alone 75,000 cars will be recalled. This is an embarrassment for a company that prides and markets its image based on Germany quality in addition to the wholesome image of being a premium end product. In the end the root cause of the problem has been identified as a cheap fuse. The automaker is emphasising that no injuries deaths have occurred as a result of the reported fire incidents. The recall will commence in July as Mercedes stockpile the necessary parts and distribute them worldwide. The affected cars include the C-Class, E-Class, CLA, GLA and GLC vehicles. Existing cars not already sold within the affected group will be fitted with the new fuse before being tendered to market. Mercedes have identified a fuse in the starter motor which prevents the engine from starting, over repeated attempts this causes the starter motor to overheat. The biggest number of cars affected are in the USA, the company’s biggest sales territory. It has been reported that 30 of the 51 fires occurred in the USA so this is a disaster for Mercedes, but over time people have short memories, combined with the image and slick sales and marketing campaigns all be forgotten… Until something else fails, but in the meantime owners of a Mercedes within the list will have to play Russian Roulette until the fix has been undertaken.  Deer-Hunter-Russian-Roulette-Dailycarblog
