For the UK market, the second Rexton will be powered by a 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine delivering a maximum power of 181PS and maximum torque of 420Nm, with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed auto transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
The Rexton will feature a 4-wheel drive system, SsangYong claim that it offers better efficiency and greater fuel economy because the “part time” 4×4 system means power is delivered permanently to the rear wheels.
Front wheel drive can be selected electronically as required with high ratio, and low ratio and it also features hill start assist and hill descent control. PSsangYong claim that weight distribution is balanced to improved ride and handling which are bolstered by front and 10-link independent suspension at the rear.
SsangYong have worked hard to produce a stiffer body and improved aerodynamics are designed to reduce wind noise. Hydraulic engine mounts, improved cabin sealing and lower road and tyre noise reduce noise and vibrations.
SsangYong follows industry trends by offering a 8.0” screen or in HD on a wide 9.2” infotainment system which includes DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto for device mirroring, a rear view reversing camera, these are dependent on trim. A digital instrument binnacle is also offered as an option.
The second generation Rexton will go on sale in the UK around October and will be offered in three trim levels Rexton EX, ELX and the top spec Ultimate which will cost £37k.
