In what appears to be a take over of this website by Tesla, which it isn’t, the anything electric goes maker of electric vehicles have finally removed the veil of secrecy to reveal their all new electric truck. Elon Musk, the billionaire founder and CEO of Tesla, unsurprisingly has lofty ambitions in so far as he believes that electric powered vehicles should replace ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles once and for all.
So what is the Tesla Truck about? It’s a fully articulated lorry, HGV or in the US it will be known as a semi-truck and it will go into production in 2019.
The Tesla Semi can reputedly go from 0-60mph in 5 seconds, with a fully laden trailer (36 tonnes) it can hit the same 0-60mph mark in 20 seconds.
Tesla has developed a new charging solution for their semi truck, Mega-chargers, these work as kind-of-like a fast charger for your mobile phone.
So, for the Tesla Semi, it means 400 miles can be added in as little as 30 minutes. Tesla claims their Semi truck has a total range of 500 miles.
The Telsa Semi’s energy recovery system allows for 98 percent of energy from, say, braking to be recovered to the battery.
Onboard technology includes specifically developed driver assists such as advanced autonomous driving. Sensors are able to detect instability and can independently adjust torque levels to compensate accordingly.
The Auto Pilot system will also include automatic lane keeping, emergency braking, and lane departure warning. Tesla also claims that the Semi will outperform a diesel truck in terms of covering more miles in the same timespan.
