5 Things to Look for When Shopping for HID Bulbs

Despite the wide use of LED lights today among vehicle brands due to their many favorable advantages, there are still those that prefer having HID bulbs in their car. HID or high-intensity discharge bulbs started appearing in luxury car models in the 1990s. It easily rose to popularity and wide use due to light emitting issues of regular halogen lights. The very bright light it emits is what makes it very popular among many car owners, even to this day. If you are thinking of replacing your current car lights with HID bulbs, you need to know first what you should look for in HID bulbs before you make any purchase. Here are some of those:  
  • Size Options
  Not all HID bulbs are the same, they vary in different aspects especially in their sizes. When buying HID bulbs make sure that you are purchasing the right size that fits your vehicle well. You may want to go for a brand that offers you a wide range of size options, although most brands really do offer them.  
  • Choose the Right Color Temperature
  For this, it is very important to know and understand the different color temperatures of HID bulbs including their advantage and disadvantages. Although you also need to note that not all color temperature is street legal, so make sure you know what’s allowed and not allowed by law in your locality. To be safe choose a color temperature that emits light bright enough for safe travels while not violating the law. Mostly these color temperature ranges from 4,300K to 6,000K.  
  • The Right Wattage
  HID bulbs are commonly available in two wattage options- 35 watts and 55 watts. They are both used in cars and motorcycles but they greatly differ in power consumption and brightness. Choose one that is appropriate for the nature of your car use. If you are living in areas where brighter lights are not really necessary, you may want to opt for the 35-watt bulbs. However, if your vehicle is used in long, distant travels a 55-watt bulb can be of great help. As well 35-watt bulbs can function in temperatures as low as -40F while 55-watt bulb requires at least -20F to function.  
  • Plug and Play Installation
  You need to find an HID lighting system that is not only compatible with your vehicle but one that is easy to plug and use. There are many different brands out there that offer plug and play installation. This means it requires lesser time to install and do not require modifications to the stock equipment.  
  • Price and Warranties
  Ideally, you need to look for brands that offer good quality and impressive features at a reasonable price. This is not that hard as there are lots of options in the market. As well, you may opt for ones that offer replacement warranties. Shopping for HID bulbs don’t have to be hard since there are lots of good options you can buy.
