Ferrari Just Take Our Money, Name Your Price For The SP38!
Auto News
This is a specially commisioned one-of-kind / one make Ferrari, made by Ferrari for a Ferrari customer. The SP38 is based on a 488 GTB, it is a bespoke remaking tailored to the clients brief. So, the SP38 sits on a 488 GTB chassis which means RWD, that 3.9-litre V8-twin-turbo and access to 661bhp and 761Nm of torque. Roughly translated this means a 0-60mph time of 3.0 seconds leading to a top speed of  205mph. As with any Ferrari, the appearance defines every model and it seems the faultless design of the 488 GTB was just a little on the bland side for one potential owner. Ferrari-SP38-2018-Front-View-Dailycarblog To us, the SP38 is reminiscent of the 308 lineages, a bit of the 1984 GTO and 308 GTB upon which the GTO is based. The GTO eventually led to the F40 which is the reference point Ferrari used when creating the SP38. Exterior details such as the headlights were designed to be as thin as possible, not for any functional purpose but that they look good. Ferrari-SP38-2018-Side-Profile-Dailycarblog The 488 GTB glass engine cover is replaced by a highly stylised carbon-fibre flip-up cover, the design is based on the rear cover of the F40. The three transversal slats do have a functional purpose of allowing the escape of engine heat, the integrated rear spoiler is also a nod to the F40’s mahoosive rear spoiler. Ferrari-SP38-2018-Rear-Slats-Dailycarblog So how much does all of this cost? The SP38 was designed by the Ferrari Design Centre a dedicated facility to making customers vision come to life. Another way to look at the Ferrari Design Centre is to see it for what it is, a traditional coach-building division of the Scuderia. Coach-building is a very time consuming and highly skilled occupation and coach built cars are always expensive, only affordable to those with very deep pockets. Ferrari-SP38-2018-Rear-Side-Profile-Dailycarblog So if you factor in the $300,000 it costs to buy the standard 488 GTB then add at least another $500k, you get an approximation of what the SP38 probably cost. It could be more, remember this is an official Ferrari bespoke creation, that alone is an expensive proposition. But if you have the money then why not. The Ferrari SP38 will be on public display for the first time at the upcoming Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Saturday 26th May 2018.  Ferrari-SP38-2018-Dailycarblog
