The Tesla Model S, One of The World’s Most Eco-Friendly Cars?
Features

The cars we loved used to all be about speed, style, sophistication, and to some extent they still are. But now there’s a new factor at play when we make our choices. Although electric cars still only make up around 1% of the global car market, the trend towards eco-friendly cars is growing.

More Americans To Switch to Electric

A recent survey by AAA found that around 20% of Americans are considering an electric vehicle, like a Tesla Model S, for their next purchase. When asked why, many state a concern for the environment, lower operating costs, and cutting-edge technology as their reasons to make the switch. To guide the population along their way, AAA announced the winners of their 2018 Top Green Vehicle Awards. The cars were assessed based on 13 criteria—including fuel economy, performance, and safety—to see which ones would emerge at the top of their respective categories. The competition included electric, hybrid, and even fuel-efficient gas models.

The Winner Is…

It was Tesla who stole the show, with the Tesla Model S and Model X scooping 4 out of 10 category wins between them. Tesla have run into a bit of trouble recently, including missed targets, financial instabilities, and customer relation problems, but let’s face it—their cars are still in high demand. Celebrities like Daniel Negreanu, Ben Affleck and Cameron Diaz are all proud owners of the Tesla Model S. The model currently costs around $90,000+. Here are the winners of the AAA 2018 Top Green Vehicle Awards: Tesla X 75D – Overall Winner, Best SUV/Minivan, Best Over $50k Tesla S 75 Sedan – Best Large Car Chevy Bolt EV Premier – Best Subcompact Car, Best $30k – $50k Nissan Leaf SL – Best Compact Car BMW 530e i-Performance – Best Midsize Car Ford F-150 4×4 XLT Sport – Best Pickup Kia Niro LX – Best Under $30k Of course, these are just the awards won by one company, which does not necessarily represent the only eco-friendly car manufacturer in the world. There are other options available, and it’s always worth looking around to find the right electric or hybrid car for you.

Would You Drive This?

Renault Twizy gobshite, dailycarblog.com The Renault Twizy, possibly the eco-friendliest car in the world right now! This little beast is the Renault Twizy. Okay, so it’s not exactly going to match the Ferrari SP38 for speed and power, or indeed for style; but the Twizy has an estimated electricity cost of just 2.7p per mile, and it is suitable for everyday use, with a range of 62 miles. It’s available for under £7,000 and is classed as a qaudricycle in Europe. It’s of no use for large groups, but it’s great for zooming about without causing much pollution. The Twizy has an NGC rating of 15, which goes down to 4 when it uses renewable energy. It’s easily one of the eco-friendliest cars in the world right now! The trend towards eco-friendly cars is only just beginning. As companies create cars capable of both economy and style, and electric charging stations spring up to accommodate the increasing adoption of electric cars, the options will improve and the prices will fall.
