Feast your eyes on this rather special Ferrari 488 Pista Spider, recently unveiled at the 2018 Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach in California. They should have called it the 488 Marchionne, but that’s OK we’ll accept the Special Series 488 Pista Spider.
The Special Series of Ferrari’s are defined by deconstructing luxury and therefore weight. The 488 Pista Spider makes use of carbon fiber elements to reduce the overall weight to 1380kg.
Not much of a sacrifice when you consider the bog standard 488 Pista coupe weighs in at 1385kg!
So the 488 Pista Spider is like every other convertible out there, bought by balding posers looking to hold onto the remnants of their fading youth.
However, the P488 Pista Spider has that 711bhp, 3.9-litre V8 twin-turbo delivering 0-62mph times that can make a billy goat puke.
In fact apart from the convertible roof and the door strap handles, to save that minuscule amount of weight, the 488 Pista Spider will take you to that Cars & Coffee meet in style.
Performance is out-there, 0-62mph in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 211mph out-there.
The car features new diamond-finish 20” alloy wheels with a novel 10-spoke star-effect interpretation of Ferrari’s traditional mid-rear engine Berlinetta-style rims.
Also available are the optional one-piece carbon-fiber wheels which offer a 20% weight reduction over the standard forged alloys.
