The Diesel Nightmare Is Final Over For Porsche
Industry News

Porsche should never have made a diesel model of any kind. It goes against the very ethos of what makes Porsche great. Diesel cars are good for the average car but not a car company synonymous with making high-performance sports cars. But as we now know diesel cars are not that great with handling emissions. After VW was found to have fabricated diesel emissions results it’s subsidiary, Porsche has finally thrown in the rather saturated diesel towel.

Porsche is finally ending all sales of diesel cars. The decision to do so is being driven by government legislation. Particularly in Germany where cities are beginning to ban diesel cars from entering certain areas in a bid to cut pollution. In many ways, Porsche didn’t voluntarily end the sale of its diesel-powered cars. If the VW emissions cheating of 2015 had not been discovered then Porsche would almost certainly have continued selling them. Often government legislation enforces tough new legislation upon the auto industry. Be it for environmental or safety concerns. Only then does the industry react. Often, this reaction is followed by a PR campaign to highlight corporate responsibility. The PR campaign is often positive in nature rather than admitting to any wrong-doing. The sports car maker, famous for the 911, sold diesel cars for over a decade. Now the company will focus on petrol, hybrids and fully electric cars. In the wake of the VW emissions scandal, governments worldwide have toughed their stance on diesel cars due to fact-based studies. Diesel cars are known to pollute and emit airborne toxins that can cause respiratory harm to humans. VW’s cheating was found to be so brazen and lacking in corporate responsibility that the company is now facing multiple laws suits. The company has reserved $30bn for expected compensation claims, to settle fines and buying back cars in the US. The irony for Porsche is that the very first car it ever produced was electric.
