Lamborghini’s Hypercar Shaping Up To Be The Last of The Mohican V12 Era
Auto News

We don’t yet know the full specs of Lamborghini’s all-new hypercar other than it will feature the Aventador’s naturally aspirated 6.5-liter 730bhp, 690Nm torque V12 powerplant. We don’t yet even know what it will be called but can guess it will be named after a Spanish fighting bull or a mountain, a Lamborghini nomenclature tradition. The mountain bit, we’re not so sure of. This new, yet to be officially revealed Lambo lightweight, track-focused, track-only hypercar will be similar to the La Ferrari FXX K.

Whereas the FXX K uses a hybrid to boost the V12’s engine performance to a total system power output of over 1,000bhp. The yet to named Lamborghini hypercar will retain it’s naturally aspirated roots. We do know that Lamborghini engineers have boosted output to 820 bhp through a series of upgrades, such as bigger pistons, sports exhaust.

We also know that the yet to be named hypercar will feature a steel roll-cage which confirms that it will almost be certainly a track based hypercar. Will Lamborghini offer a customer variant? Lamborghini being Lamborghini will ensure their latest hypercar will look the part. From what we can see of the image teaser is an exterior design that has all the elements of an endurance racer.

Afterall the Lamborghini CEO, Stefano Domenicali, is a former Ferrari F1 team principal. Anyway, it’s pretty common knowledge that this new Lambo hypercar will indeed be a track only. My guess is that Lamborghini has built the racer primarily for racing purposes and will homologate a batch of cars for retail customers.

How much will it cost? Word on the street is, around £2m GBP. However much it does cost, when it is revealed later this year I can not help but wonder if it is the last burning scream of the V12 engine era. The automotive world is moving into an electric/hybrid powerplants, this Lamborghini Hypercar is already the last of it’s kind.
