Finally, we can feature something positive about Land Rover. But let’s begin with a negative. We are currently at war with Land Rover, a protracted war that will end when this website ends. That could be next week, in a few week’s time or many months from now. We have experienced grotesque ‘professionalism’ at the heart of the Land Rover UK PR department. The Land Rover UK PR department is a strange place full of click-baiting miss-information spreading, zombie-eyed delusional so-called professionals able to talk their way to the top and deliver very little of value. Supported by an unquestioning and patriotic media Land Rover UK PR exists on life-support, barely functional as much as it is dysfunctional.
Nevertheless, a US-based builder of custom vehicles has taken the last generation Land Rover Defender, removed the engine and replaced it with a Tesla powertrain. Yes, that is a fully electric Land Rover Defender based on a Tesla battery pack and electric motors. It is a significant upgrade in reliability alone.
East Coast Design did the conversion, is based in Florida and was founded by British expats. The Electric Defender has a claimed range of 222 miles and can hit reach 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds. But the analog to digital switchover isn’t limited to the 100kWh Tesla powertrain. ECD Automotive will also fully re-trim the interior, make it more luxurious.
But all this electric conversion comes with a hefty price tag. If you want your Defender converted to pure electric by ECD Automotive then expect to pay at least $100,000 USD at a minimum. If you have that amount of money to spare at this time, pandemic, what pandemic?
