Ford just got a whole lot more interesting with the launch of the F150 Lightning pure electric Pickup truck which starts at a very reasonable $39,974. It is still expensive for a large burly pickup. But with the $7,500 federal EV tax incentive included, you get next-generation EV technology for $32,500, all in, for the entry-level model. The Ford F150 Lightning, depending on model trim, will offer up to 563hp, 1050Nm of torque (775lb ft) and 300 miles of range. Entry-level models will offer 426hp as standard.

Dual motor configuration will give AWD capability as standard. Two battery configurations will be offered to enable an estimated range of between 230 or 300 miles. And the F-150 Lightning will become the first production F-Series to utilise independent rear suspension to improve ride comfort and handling. Towing capability is around 10,000lbs and the payload capacity is rated at 2,000lbs.

The Ford F150 Lightning will be offered with a single charge and dual charge functionality depending on which battery pack you opt for. That being said, the battery pack will be offered in standard range and extended range. When charging from home with a dedicated charging solution the Lighting can be recharged from 15 to 100 percent in 10 hours and 8 hours respectively.

And yes, the F-150 Lightning is 150kW fast-charge capable and can recharge from 15 to 100 percent in 41 minutes. The technology doesn’t end with the new EV powertrain. Payload sensors accurately measure how much load you are carrying. With no engine up front Ford was able to create 400-liters of space with the “frunk”.

The interior adopts a Tesla-inspired 15.5-inch vertically mounted touchscreen/infotainment system. It appears that all of the interior’s primary and secondary functions are operated entirely via the touchscreen. The F1-50 Lightning will also benefit from over-the-air upgrades. Cloud-connected navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard connectivity features.

The F150 Lightning will go on sale in the USA and Canada in March 2022, it will not be offered for sale in the UK.
