Leaked Photos of The China Bound Audi Q5 e-Tron Should Have Stayed A Secret
Auto News

If you want to grab the attention of a typical Chinese car-buying consumer then you better Jaz up the visual flair otherwise you could lose big time. Audi incorporates subtle visual design flair into its styling language. But even Audi has to adapt if it is to entertain ha, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive in China. To that end, the all-electric Audi Q5 e-tron has had to make not-so-subtle ch-ch-changes to the front grille. We are told that the Chinese car buyer is persuaded to buy a vehicle if it has an assertive, masculine-looking grille.

While such a look might look like comedy overkill to European tastes, in China owning a car with a massive grille is a sign of success. In the same way, being overweight is a sign of success in some cultures in other parts of the world. But anyway we are digressing from the Q5 e-tron which is yet to be officially revealed by Audi. So the Chinese government obliged Audi by leaking the final production look online.

The Q5 e-tron is based on the VW ID6 SUV, but with Audi’s interpretation, you get a better interior. The electric powertrain and running gear are identical to the ID6 as are the exterior dimensions. Apparently, three model options will be available. Starting from 35 e-tron, 40 e-tron and 50 e-tron, which equates to power outputs of 177bhp, 201bhp and 308bhp respectively.

The 35 e-tron and 4- e-tron will be powered by a single motor driving the rear wheels while the flagship 50 e-tron will have dual electric motors driving all 4 wheels. A 77kWh battery will power all models which equates to around 365 miles, depending on power output. The China bound Audi Q5 e-tron will be officially launched later this year, the exact date is still a mystery. Price? not yet known.
