Max Verstappen Quietly Surges To Dominant Canadian GP Victory
Formula One

Max Verstappen dominated the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix, securing a comfortable victory by crossing the finish line with a five-second lead over Fernando Alonso, who managed to secure second place. Lewis Hamilton finished in third place, trailing Alonso by a four-second margin. Despite the seemingly small margin of victory, Verstappen’s success underscored the significant performance afforded to him throughout the race courtesy of his Red Bull RB19.

Verstappen managed his race in total command of each and every lap, he didn’t need to push on every lap and exert too much stress on his car. Those behind him are simply not quick enough including teammate Sergio Perez who with equal machinery can not muster the speed Verstappen unlocks from the RB19 every Grand Prix weekend.

The real battle was for second place which was ultimately claimed by Fernando Alonso. Aston Martin’s recent upgrades provided a notable boost in pace, particularly in the capable hands of Alonso. The team’s efforts paid off, allowing Alonso to secure a well-deserved second-place finish and demonstrate the team’s improved performance

Lewis Hamilton securing a commendable third-place finish. Recent and substantial updates to the W14 car have brought about a transformation, enhancing its performance. He was able to duel it out with Alonso but eventually succumbed to the Aston Martin’s better race pace.

Meanwhile, George Russell made an unforced error that caused him to collide with a wall on lap 22, ultimately resulting in his retirement from the race. Ferrari recovered from a disappointing qualifying session, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz securing 4th and 5th places respectively.

Max Verstappen’s victory at the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix marked his 41st Grand Prix win, a statistic that puts him on par with the legendary Ayrton Senna. However, Verstappen’s focus remains on the present, the future will be written by historians and logged by statisticians.

Verstappen is fully aware that statistics alone do not define his worth as a driver. The ultimate goal for Verstappen is to secure his third driver’s title. Verstappen’s quietly dominant performance at the Canadian Grand Prix simply underscored that a third driver’s title is imminent as much as it is inevitable.
