No Surprise Ferrari Is Not Interested In Self Driving Cars
Industry News

Technology is rapidly advancing, with legacy car manufacturers adopting Artificial Intelligence, self-driving cars, and electric vehicles to remain relevant and profitable. Traditional car manufacturers prioritize engineering, while electric vehicles and AI fall under the domain of software development. Ferrari prioritizes being a driver’s car above all else while keeping an eye on future technological advancements.

The company is presently developing an electric supercar as part of its electrification plan. However, there is one technology that Ferrari firmly refuses to embrace – autonomous vehicle software. Ferrari is a brand that values the exhilaration and challenges of driving and considers self-driving cars to be comparable to desecrating the Bible.

According to Ferrari’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, the anticipated release date for the brand’s inaugural electric vehicle is set for 2025. During the recent Future of The Car Summit, Vigna also touched upon Ferrari’s stance towards autonomous driving, firmly indicating the company’s position.

“In a cabin, there are four kinds of software. There is performance software, there is comfort software, there is infotainment software, and there is autonomous. The last one, we do not care.”

In a previous media interview, Vigna emphasized Ferrari’s commitment to achieving success without relying on AI technology.

“The AI guys had a ride with our test driver,” Vigna said last June, “When they got out from a Ferrari they told me, OK Benedetto, our presentation is useless.”

It is expected that AI-assisted cars will be worth multiple billions of dollars, particularly as optional extras. If Ferrari were to see handsome returns from an optional self-driving mode, they may one day, reconsider their position.
