Nyobolt EV - The Lotus Elise Tech Revo
This Electric Lotus Elise Is A Tech Demo With Super Fast Ultra Batteries
Auto News

Nyobolt is a British company focused on developing high-performance battery and charging technologies. The company’s mission is to substantially decrease the charging time required for electric vehicles, envisioning a future where charging your car becomes an incredibly efficient and time-saving process. Envision a scenario where you can charge an electric vehicle with a range of 300 miles in just a matter of minutes, as opposed to the hours it presently requires.

Nyobolt claims that their latest technological breakthrough can make this vision a reality. By harnessing their cutting-edge technology, Nyobolt aims to provide a solution that significantly reduces charging times, propelling electric vehicles into a new era of convenience and efficiency.

That new area of convenience and efficiency is realised in the Nyobolt EV which is based on the Lotus Elise. To create the Nyobolt EV, the company approached CALLUM, a bespoke design and engineering company, and Julian Thompson, the originator of the Lotus Elise design.

This collaboration represents a modernization of the iconic Lotus Elise design language. While the vehicle has been made wider and longer, it still retains the distinctive and recognizable styling that is synonymous with the Elise brand.  But it is the technology powering the Nybolt EV that could revolutionise EV charging times.

But here’s the issue, we don’t actually know specific details of the technology other than that the Nybolt EV is powered by a 35kWh battery pack and is capable of fully charging with up to 250km (155 miles) range in under 6 mins “with existing charging infrastructure”. But what do they mean meant by the ” existing charging infrastructure”?

Is Nybolt referring to consumer-grade wall chargers or commercial fast charging stations?

Well, they give the game away in their press release by enthusiastically admitting: ” Larger packs, e.g., batteries as large as those employed in any luxury EV, truck or bus used today, can also be made and could be charged in a few minutes, once 1MW chargers become available.”

Currently, it is important to acknowledge that there are no existing 1MW charging stations anywhere in the world. In fact, the standards for 1MW chargers have yet to be defined, and consequently, the construction of such stations has not commenced. However, in Germany, experimental trials are actively taking place with the aim of establishing a functional 1MW charging station for testing purposes by the end of the current year.

Nyobolt claims its proprietary technology will allow for smaller battery packs that can deliver more power and charge in less time. The company also claims its” ready to deploy” technology will go into production in early 2024.
