Autocar reveiw - Lotus Eletre
Car Reviewer Can’t Understand Why The Lotus Eletre Isn’t More Lotus-y
Video

Alright, we’re completely convinced that the Lotus Eletre will finally vanquish the grim automotive reaper from continually haunting Lotus. The Lotus Eletre is the most interesting electric SUV of the year because it’s made by Lotus. Actually, Lotus is owned by the Chinese automotive juggernaut Geely and the Eletre is made in China. China’s EV market and technology are far more advanced than anything we have in Europe.

It is not just the EV technology that is advanced, China’s EV ideology and thinking are also way more advanced. China doesn’t have a legacy of investing billions into internal combustion technologies, it doesn’t have the grimy links with big oil that plague many legacy European car manufacturers.

While Germany’s EV thinking is blinkered and its industry is in a state of de-industrialisation due to NATO’s proxy war in Ukraine, China with its 1 billion population is able to act swiftly to implement change. Change is good, change is often a required benchmark needed for survival. But British motoring journalists want everything to remain the same.

Take this fella, Mat Prior from Autocar, he bemoans the fact that the Eletre, a near 3-tonne hyper electric SUV, doesn’t feel like a Lotus to drive. Presumably, he means a Lotus two-seater sports coupe. At this point, I am slapping my forehead in total disbelief. Would he metaphorically prefer Lotus to exist in a near state of bankruptcy occasionally surfacing from its watery grave for a desperate gasp of air?

Come on, please!

The Eletre should be nothing like old Lotus, the Eletre puts Lotus back on the map. It’s a positive aspect that the Eletre is not like old Lotus and I could go on and on. Lotus doesn’t need to recruit motoring journalists to help sell the Eletre because it sells itself.

It doesn’t drive like a Lotus? JFC!
