Candian Grand Prix: Max Verstappen Makes The Difference To Secure Victory
Formula One

The negative outcome of the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix was that Max Verstappen secured victory during a tense, incident-filled race. The positive outcome post-race is that Red Bull no longer enjoys a significant performance advantage, as Max Verstappen made the difference and overcame wet and changeable conditions to take a deserving victory. But it wasn’t easy; George Russell started from pole, with wet conditions prompting all runners to start the race on intermediates, except the Hass team, who opted for full wets.

The decision seemed good initially for the Hass team, but eventually, the track began to dry, favoring those on intermediates. Russell managed to pull out a small but narrow advantage over Verstappen in the first part of the race. However, Russell’s pace began to fade, and Verstappen seized his opportunity. Meanwhile, third-place Norris was just slightly faster.

Russell surrendered his lead to Verstappen after a mistake in the last corner, allowing Norris to slip into second. Norris then chased down and overtook Verstappen for the lead, establishing a narrow margin. It appeared McLaren was poised for victory.

However, amidst a series of safety car incidents and changing weather conditions, along with strategic pit stops, Verstappen somehow found himself back in the lead. With a drying track and 10 laps remaining, Verstappen regained his momentum as his competitors fell behind.

In the end Verstappen managed to edge out Norris by a three-second margin to claim victory, with George Russell rounding up the top three in what turned out to be an unpredictable race.
