It may not look like much, and it may not be exciting to drive, it is simply designed to do one job: transport its occupants from point A to point B. That is the role of the VW Tiguan, which has a starting price of £34,000 in the UK. In China, for the equivalent of £27,000, you can get a VW Touareg-sized SUV with superior standard equipment. It’s called the Chery Tiggo 9, and it serves the same purpose: transporting its occupants from point A to point B.
Chery has launched the pre-sale of its 2025 Tiggo 9 and Tiggo 9 C-DM SUVs. The Tiggo 9, the flagship model of the series, features a refreshed design and enhanced configuration. The Tiggo 9 C-DM is a new plug-in hybrid variant.
Here’s an abridged summary of the Tiggo 9 and why we in Europe are in a slow decline to the bottom.
Tiggo 9
Exterior: The 2025 Tiggo 9 boasts a revised front fascia with a hexagonal grille and through-type lights. The overall dimensions remain unchanged.
Interior: The interior features a dual-screen setup, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and a choice of five- or seven-seat configurations.
Performance: The Tiggo 9 is powered by a 2.0T engine mated to a 7DCT or an Aisin 8AT, delivering 257 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque.
Tiggo 9 C-DM
Exterior: The Tiggo 9 C-DM shares the same design as the Tiggo 9 but with two new green-shaded exterior paints and a C-DM tail label.
Performance: The C-DM variant utilizes a 1.5T hybrid engine and a front electric motor, coupled with a 3-speed DHT. The ternary lithium battery pack has a 19.43 kWh capacity. It offers a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.8 seconds, a pure electric range of 106 km, and a combined range of over 1,400 km.
Charging: The Tiggo 9 C-DM supports both fast and slow charging, with charging times of 25 minutes and 3.5 hours, respectively.
VtoL Function: The C-DM model includes a standard 6.6 kW VtoL mobile power station function.
Both models are expected to officially launch on September 25. The Tiggo 9 and Tiggo 9 C-DM offer a compelling combination of style, performance, and technology.
