Shmee150 takes a first look at the Ferrari the brand-new, lightweight, hardcore Ferrari 296 Speciale. It is a spiritual successor to iconic models like the 458 Speciale and 488 Pista, the 296 Speciale.
At its heart, the 296 Speciale packs a reworked 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, now producing 700hp—an increase of 37hp over the standard version. Paired with an upgraded electric motor contributing 15hp, the total output hits 880hp, making it the most powerful rear-wheel-drive Ferrari production car ever, even surpassing the limited-run Daytona SP3. Torque rises to 755Nm, helping the car blast from 0 to 200 km/h in just 7 seconds.
Ferrari hasn’t just turned up the power—it has re-engineered the aerodynamics and weight. With a 20% increase in downforce, now generating 455kg at 250 km/h, the car benefits from aggressive aero upgrades, including a new front aero damper, reshaped side elements, and enhancements to the active rear wing. The chassis has also been lightened by 60kg, dropping the dry weight to 1,410kg. Much of that savings comes from a stripped-out cabin and the inclusion of Ferrari’s lightest “Best Weight” seats from the SF90 XX.
When viewed alongside the standard 296 GTS, the Speciale’s purpose is clear: maximum performance with track focus, without sacrificing Ferrari’s signature driver engagement. It promises to enhance all the best characteristics of the 296 GTB and GTS while slotting into Ferrari’s celebrated series of “Speciale” models that began with the Challenge Stradale.
Also revealed is the 296 Speciale A, the open-top variant that brings the same extreme performance to those who prefer their speed with fresh air.
