So, What Are LED Rock Lights? Our American pickup truck off-roading readers will likely know, but if you happen to live in Europe—perhaps on a remote Swiss mountain path where daylight hours rapidly fade from late October onwards—allow me to explain.

Rock lights are small, powerful LED lights designed to be mounted underneath vehicles to improve nighttime visibility.

Spoiler alert: You’ll need a bit of DIY common sense to fit and mount them properly.

Our friends over at LEDMIRCY sent us an LED Rock Light kit designed to fully illuminate the undercarriage or wheel arch of a vehicle.

It could be fitted to almost any vehicle, but rock lights are typically an aftermarket upgrade for off-roaders—not just for illumination, but also for adding that extra cool factor.

There’s also a safety benefit: rock lights make your vehicle far more visible to other road users, especially on unlit country roads or highways. They’re relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and could even be ideal for semi trucks (HGVs), helping to improve nighttime safety for everyone on the road.

Our LEDMIRCY Rock Lights arrived as a complete package. First impressions? The lights are solidly built. Honestly, I expected a flimsy, cheaply made set, but these feel like they could survive a nuclear blast.

The housings are made from powder-coated, water-resistant die-cast aluminium. They feature four next-generation LED beads per unit. The rear is sealed with a metal plate bonded by a clear resin adhesive, giving the hardware an impressive IP68 waterproof rating and excellent all-purpose durability.

Epilogue

From my perspective as a NOOB, one thing I would improve is the inclusion of a clear how-to mounting guide, as well as longer cabling. You can, of course, order extension cables separately, so this isn’t a major drawback if you have a smaller vehicle — just something to keep in mind if you own a larger off-roader.

I also think it would be great to have a Bluetooth control option, which could reduce the need to drill holes into the cabin for wiring.
