Isuzu Goes Electric: D-Max EV Brings Ladder-Frame Toughness And Zero Emissions
Auto News

The Isuzu D-Max EV — a two-tonne declaration that the apocalypse will now be delivered quietly.

Isuzu has taken its very sensible, very agricultural pickup truck and decided to plug it into the mains. The result is the first fully electric pickup in the UK that can still do proper pickup things: carry over a tonne, tow 3.5 tonnes, and go off-road without immediately crying for a charging cable.

Under the bonnet — well, where the bonnet would be if we were still in 2006 — you’ve got a 66.9 kWh battery and two electric motors. Together they produce enough shove (200 hp and 347 Nm) to get it to 62 mph in 10.1 seconds.

Not exactly drag-strip territory, but then again, neither is towing a horsebox through a field in Northamptonshire (rural Idaho if you’re from America).

Range anxiety is handled in the usual modern way:

  • Plug it into AC and go make a cup of tea (about 6 hours)
  • Or use DC fast charging and get to 80% in about an hour — just enough time to wonder why you didn’t buy a diesel again

It’s still properly serious off-road kit too. It’ll wade through 600 mm of water, climb 30-degree slopes, and come down again without spilling your flat white. There’s even a “Rough Terrain Mode”, which is essentially the truck saying: “Don’t worry, I’ve got this, mate.”

Underneath, it still behaves like a workhorse thanks to a strengthened ladder frame and new suspension that supposedly makes it quieter and more refined.

Inside, it’s all the modern essentials: heated seats, screens, cameras, and enough tech to make it feel slightly less like a builder’s yard and slightly more like a spaceship that occasionally carries bricks.

And the big headline? It’s still a proper pickup — just one that now happens to run on electricity and mild existential confusion.

Deliveries start in May 2026. At which point, somewhere in Britain, a farmer will plug one in next to a tractor and quietly wonder how life got here.
