Jane won’t like this — she tends to bristle whenever Mercedes is criticised — but YouTuber The Electric Viking has gone in hard on Top Gear’s review of the 1,170hp AMG GT EV, the four-door version of the coupe.
He calls it the ugliest EV released this year, although he concedes the engineering underneath is the most interesting part of the car. The styling, however, he dismisses outright — and says the interior is somehow even worse.
I’d half agree, half disagree. The exterior is passable, but the interior really does feel like someone tried to design a futuristic cabin… in 1950 and only had vague second-hand descriptions of what “the future” might look like. The Electric Viking goes further, likening it to someone bolting a gaming PC straight into the dashboard.
And to be fair, he doesn’t pull punches. What this really becomes is a broader swipe at what he sees as “client journalism” in legacy automotive media — reviews softened, framed, or steered by relationships with manufacturers. On that point, he’s not entirely wrong.
