Forget subtlety. The DENZA Z9 GT has arrived in the UK with the automotive equivalent of kicking down the door, wearing a tuxedo and setting fire to the rulebook. This is BYD’s premium technology brand making its British debut, and it has decided the best way to introduce itself is with a 1,156PS electric shooting brake capable of embarrassing plenty of supercars.

The headline act is the fully electric Z9 GT, priced from £105,000. It uses a three-motor setup – one motor at the front and two at the rear – producing 1,156PS and 1,210Nm of torque. The result? 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 167mph. Yet somehow it still claims a 373-mile range thanks to a huge 122kWh battery.

Prefer a little combustion-engine security blanket? The plug-in hybrid Z9 GT DM arrives later, starting at £95,000. It combines three electric motors with a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine, delivering 776PS, a 3.6-second 0-62mph timeand up to 500 miles of total range.

The really outrageous party trick is DENZA’s FLASH Charging technology. With charging speeds of up to 1,500kW, the Z9 GT can supposedly go from 10 to 70 per cent charge in just five minutes. That is less “coffee break” and more “blink and it’s ready”.

Underneath, the Z9 GT is packed with clever engineering. Its e³ platform features advanced air suspension, intelligent vehicle control, rear-wheel steering and the ability to crab sideways or perform a 360-degree turn. It sounds less like a luxury estate car and more like a gadget from a Bond villain’s garage.

Inside, DENZA has gone full five-star hotel. Nappa leather, heated, ventilated and massaging seats, a Devialet 20-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system and even a built-in refrigerator come as standard.

The Z9 GT is expensive, extremely powerful and unapologetically futuristic. Whether Britain is ready for a Chinese luxury EV costing over £100,000 remains to be seen – but DENZA has certainly made sure nobody ignores it.
