Ford has begun shipping its new electric Transit City van from China to Europe, with the first batch of 1,000 vehicles leaving the country in September. The company began taking orders from European customers earlier this year, with the first deliveries expected before the end of 2026.

The Transit City was jointly developed by Ford and its Chinese partner, Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), in which Ford holds a 32% stake.

Built on a dedicated JMC platform, the van was developed specifically for overseas markets, with Ford adapting it to meet requirements covering safety, regulations and data security.

Production began at JMC’s factory in Nanchang at the end of August. The Transit City was subsequently displayed at the IAA Transportation 2026 show in Hannover, Germany, alongside a chassis-cab version.

Under the skin, the electric van uses a 56 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery powering a front-mounted electric motor producing up to 110 kW. Ford quotes a range of up to 254 km, while the van can carry a maximum payload of 1.6 tonnesand offers 8.5 cubic metres of cargo space.

Safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, intelligent speed assistance and adaptive cruise control. The cabin also features a 12.3-inch touchscreen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Transit City represents an important step for Ford, becoming the company’s first battery-electric commercial vehicle to be exported from China to Europe and other developed markets.
