NINE YEARS! Nine years since Tesla first pulled the covers off the Roadster — and now, finally, we have a date!

1 October 2026!

That is the day Tesla says we will finally see the production version of its electric sports car. And when I say finally, I really mean finally, because this car has been waiting so long that some of its original competitors have already come and gone!

Tesla says it will be the quickest vehicle in the world. Not quick. Not very quick. The quickest! Record-setting acceleration, record-setting range and record-setting performance. That is an enormous claim — but then this is Tesla, and enormous claims are rather its speciality.

The prototype first appeared in November 2017, when the standard Roadster was announced at $200,000 and the Founders Series at $250,000. And now? Well, your guess is as good as mine, but I suspect the intervening nine years haven’t made it cheaper!

The original promises were extraordinary: sub-two-second 0–60mph acceleration, more than 250mph and a claimed 620-mile range.

Can it actually do it?

That’s the question. And on 1 October, after nine years of waiting, we may finally get the answer.
