Uber is cutting around 3,300 jobs as it reshapes the company for a rapidly changing ride-hailing market increasingly threatened by robotaxis.

The layoffs, representing roughly 10% of Uber’s workforce, are the company’s largest since the pandemic forced major cuts in 2020. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the restructuring will remove layers of management and simplify decision-making, creating a “leaner organization” better positioned to invest in growth and autonomous vehicles.

Uber employed around 34,000 people globally at the end of 2025. As part of the overhaul, it plans to reduce employees seven or more reporting layers below the CEO by 20% and sharply cut the number of small teams.

The move comes as Waymo expands its driverless ride service and Tesla pushes further into robotaxis. Uber plans to invest more than $10 billion in autonomous vehicles in the coming years, aiming to remain the marketplace connecting passengers with both human and robotic drivers.

For Uber, the future of mobility is becoming increasingly driverless — and considerably leaner.
