Caterham Cars has brought two of its iconic Seven race cars to iRacing, giving sim racers around the world the chance to experience the British marque’s lightweight sports cars virtually.

The Caterham Seven Academy and Seven 420R are included in iRacing’s Season 4 update and have been developed using real-world race data.

Caterham says both cars were 3D scanned to accurately reproduce their physical design, while authentic engine and exhaust sounds were recorded during pre-season testing. Racing drivers competing in Caterham Motorsport also tested and approved the virtual models.

The Seven Academy is designed as an entry-level race car and features a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 130bhp. It comes equipped with race-focused upgrades including bespoke suspension, a roll cage, racing seats and a six-point harness.

The track-only Seven 420R offers more performance, with a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine producing 180bhp. Power is sent through a six-speed sequential gearbox, with slick racing tyres providing additional grip.

Both cars are available through the official iRacing store as part of a single bundle and can be raced in dedicated Caterham series.

Caterham says the partnership could also encourage sim racers to progress into real-world competition through its Academy Championship, which operates in the UK and France.

The Seven Academy race package starts at £44,995 in the UK, while the 420R starts at £53,990.

The launch gives Caterham another platform to showcase its motorsport programme and introduce its lightweight, driver-focused cars to a global gaming and racing audience.
