A new ultra-limited collector’s edition celebrating Gilles Villeneuve’s legendary 1979 wet-weather victory at Watkins Glen has been unveiled by the Amalgam Collection, paying tribute to one of Formula 1’s most iconic drives.
The release recreates Villeneuve’s Ferrari 312 T4 in extraordinary detail, based on his performance at the United States Grand Prix. Limited to just 12 pieces worldwide, each 1:8 scale model is hand-built over approximately 450 hours and intentionally “weathered” to replicate the exact condition of the car as it crossed the finish line in the rain-soaked race.

Using archival reference material, artisans at Amalgam’s Bristol workshop meticulously reproduced every mark, stain and trace of grime from the original car, capturing the intensity of one of Formula 1’s most celebrated wet-weather performances.

The edition is more than a model set. Each piece includes four large-format A2 photographic prints by Formula 1 photographer Richard Kelley, many previously unseen, documenting Villeneuve’s Ferrari era.
Priced at £14,295 ($18,995) per set, the package includes the replica car, archival prints, and presentation packaging.

Amalgam founder Sandy Copeman described the project as a fusion of craftsmanship and storytelling, aimed at preserving not just the car, but the emotional legacy of Villeneuve’s driving style—widely regarded as fearless, instinctive, and uniquely brilliant in extreme conditions.
The Watkins Glen victory itself remains one of Villeneuve’s defining moments, remembered for his dominance in heavy rain and his ability to push beyond the limits of both machine and rivals. This limited edition seeks to preserve that moment in physical form for collectors and motorsport enthusiasts alike.
