Aston Martin is preparing one of its most significant Formula 1 upgrades of the season, with the team confirming that a major package will debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix on both cars.
The upgrade is not a completely new car, but it represents a substantial evolution of the current design. The team has retained the core chassis and gearbox architecture while reducing weight from both areas. The changes were significant enough to require re-homologation and crash testing of the forward chassis.
Aerodynamically, Aston Martin has developed a new nose and heavily revised bodywork surfaces, while the rear suspension has also received updates. The objective is to bring the car much closer to Formula 1’s minimum weight limit and unlock a significant performance improvement.
Team leadership expects the package to deliver a large step forward but has avoided predicting exact lap-time gains before the car reaches the track. The team has acknowledged that previous limitations were not only related to car design but also engineering tools.
Investment is now being made into simulation technology, physics modelling and data correlation, although the full benefits of those improvements are expected later in the season.
The upgrade is also viewed as important for Fernando Alonso’s future with the team. Aston Martin says the veteran driver remains fully committed but wants to see clear evidence that the project is heading in the right direction. His experience, technical feedback and ability to help develop the car remain highly valued.
Both Alonso and Lance Stroll have shown frustration during Aston Martin’s difficult period, but the team understands their desire to compete at the front.
Beyond the car itself, Aston Martin is also expanding its use of artificial intelligence. The technology is being applied to analyse internal engineering data from CFD, wind tunnels and track testing, helping engineers identify patterns and make faster development decisions.
The Hungary upgrade will be a crucial test of Aston Martin’s ambitions and could determine whether the team’s long-term project is finally gaining momentum.
