The Smart #2 is a package so hopelessly outdated that it beggars belief it exists at all. Few people buy tiny cars because they’re too small to be practical and, crucially, not nearly large enough to convince a psychotic city bus driver that running you off the road might involve paperwork.
Now, 30 years after its original concept appeared in Paris, smart is bringing back the idea with the all-electric #2. The car may be small and pointless, but the ambitions are as unrealistic as ever.

Power comes from a rear-mounted 60kW electric motor, while a 35.8kWh battery offers a targeted range of up to 180 miles. DC charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes a claimed 20 minutes.
That is enough time for a coffee, provided the charging station has one and the machine is working. Inside, a pair of digital displays, connected services and driver assistance technology bring the little runabout firmly into the modern age.

Pure and Premium trims will be joined by a limited Couture Edition, because even a tiny city car few will buy needs a fashion statement.
UK pricing is expected to start below £20,000, with pre-orders opening in spring 2027.
