This One-Off Ruf Could Sell For A Staggering $8 Million
Auto News

Forget your sensible German sports car. This is Project Dragon, a one-off Ruf that looks like it’s been dreamed up by someone who thinks subtlety is for people who drive hatchbacks.

And in late November, it could become the most expensive Ruf ever sold at auction, with an estimated price of $6 million to $8 million.

So, what exactly are you getting for the price of a small island? For starters, an extraordinary modern reimagining of the legendary Ruf CTR2 Sport, built around the final body-in-white retained from the original car’s production era between 1995 and 1997.

The design comes from Tony Hatter, the man responsible for the original Porsche 993 911. Not a bad starting point, then.

Naturally, it’s finished in Dragon Fire Orange, with matching five-spoke wheels, sculpted bodywork, a beautifully integrated rear spoiler and a single central exhaust. It looks gloriously unhinged, in the best possible way.

And it’s not just a pretty face. Beneath the bodywork sits a custom twin-turbocharged, air-cooled 3.6-litre flat-six producing 621bhp.

That’s roughly 40bhp more than the original CTR2 Sport. Modern Bilstein PSS10 suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes help keep all that firepower in check.

Inside, orange-backed bucket seats, bespoke upholstery and matching orange gauges ensure the theme continues. It’s practically a traffic cone with a racing licence.

Delivered in March 2024, Project Dragon has covered just 759 miles. Why its owner is selling so soon remains a mystery. But for one very wealthy enthusiast, this could be the ultimate opportunity to own a truly unique piece of Ruf history.
