The new Jaguar XF has officially debuted at the New York International Auto Show eight years after its predecessor was revealed in 2007. Priced from £32k it offers the lowest CO2 emissions in its class, excluding hybrid models, at 104 g/km. Up to 190 kg of weight has been shed, to further improve efficiency. Jaguar say the new model also offers improved aerodynamic efficiency, its near 50:50 weight distribution, coupé-like bodystyling and re-engineered doublewishbone suspension are designed to continue the “big cat’s” comfortable ride whilst retaining that witty handling. With a 66 mm shorter front overhang, the rear-wheel drive the subtly aggressive look is accelerated thanks to adaptive full-LED headlights, Jaguar’s J-Blade LED daytime running lights are available on the XF as an optional extra. Jaguar-XF-2015-New-York-Auto-Show-Rear-View The all new XF features new technology such as the All-Surface Progress Control which operates the throttle and brake at speeds of between 3.6 km/h and 30km/h. Speed is controlled via the cruise control switches, although it’s important to note that this is only available on automatic models only. Dampers, steering, engine and transmission can all be individually tailored via the Jaguar Configurable Dynamics, an option on V6 models only. The 3.0-litre V6 engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission, whereas the 2.0 litre 4-cylinder diesels are mated to a lighter and more compact 8-speed automatic transmission or a new, lighter 6-speed manual ‘box. Jaguar-XF-2015-New-York-Auto-Show-Interior Fuel economy is said to be at its highest on the 2.0-litre 163 PS diesel, achieving a claimed 71.7 mpg when specified with the 6-speed manual transmission. The the V6 engines capable of covering 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds and 5.3 seconds for the diesel and supercharged petrol respectively, emitting 144 and 198 g/km of CO2. Inside, an all-new 10.2-inch touchscreen, namely InControl Touch Pro, comprises of a sat nav, iOS and Android connectivity, and a 17-speaker 825W Meridian surround sound system. Behind the wheel, a TT-esque 12.3-inch TFT display allows for a full-screen navigation display in the instrument cluster as well as 4 themes. No less than 10 colours are available as part of the ambient lighting, and four-zone climate control can be configured as well. A leaser head-up display will project necessary information onto the windscreen to make a potential buyer’s journey safer. Jaguar-XF-2015-New-York-Auto-Show- The InControl Remote is a smartphone app which allows you to lock and unlock the vehicle as well as perform other features, and the increasingly common Dual View screen lets the two front seat occupants to see different things on the same screen (like a DVD for the passenger and navigation for the driver). Rear legroom has increased by 15 mm, kneeroom by 24 mm and headroom by up to 27 mm thanks to a 51 mm longer wheelbase. Practicality hasn’t been forgotten about either, with a 540 litre boot behind 40:20:40 split folding rear seats. The XF is a mid-sized executive saloon, competing against the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Lexus GS. Four trim levels will be offered from launch – Prestige, R-Sports, Portfolio and S, with the former 3 being offered on 2.0-litre diesel models and S being the only option for the V6s. The cheapest is the XF Prestige 2.0-litre 4-cylinder 163 PS diesel with manual transmission at £32,300, and at just over £17k more are the XF S 3.0- litre V6 supercharged petrol and 3.0-litre V6 diesel both costing £49,950.
