Its no real secret Porsche have been using Audi sourced parts, they have done so for years. Both companies are virtually joined at the hip. Perhaps you might confuse them for being conjoined twins when looking at the Porsche Macan and the Audi Q5 because together they look rather too similar for our tastes.

The Porsche Macan shares the Audi Q5’s wheelbase and suspension but obviously the exterior and interior styling of the Macan is different. Different as in the difference between EE Broadband or BT Broadband, that is to say you still get more or less the same amount of Gbits per second.

One could argue that this is celebrating the art shared styling gone not too far. Many people will probably say what we are not prepared to say that this represents the height of lazy design. We prefer to hide behind the opinion of what other people say because we are cowardly.

The Macan is longer and wider than the Q5 by about 1 inch all round and the Macan is also much more tuned to deliver better straight-line performance. That’s about it. Economies of scale, to a certain extent, are what these two cars are about, but what it really represents is badge engineering its like the difference between… well… an Audi and a Porsche.
