Features

Driven by the right capable hands these supercar/hypercar exotics are wonderlust personified. In the wrong hands they are deadly and most often end up in a hedgerow, these expensive smashed cars will make you think twice the next time you decide to drive like a racing god. In your Dacia Sandero.

1) Bugatti Veyron

5-Expensive-Crashes-C

This isn’t the most expensive supercar crash to feature in this top five list but costing around £900k in the UK its still one big and very expensive headache for the owner. The crashed Veyron featured was being driven by a 39 year old businessman whose brother had taken delivery of it a week earlier. Apparently the AWD hypercar spun doing speeds in excess of 100mph,  the driver somehow lost control hit a Vauxhall Astra before spinning several times and coming to a rest in a ditch. No one was injured, personal claim injury lawyers rubbed their hands in delight.

Rowan Atkinson, aka Blackadder, aka Mr Bean is known for being a motor head, aka gearhead. The famed actor was driving his McLaren F1 supercar and you can guess what happened, yep he crashed while quite possibly high. On adrenalin. The very first McLaren supercar is one of only 64 examples in the world and has rocketed up in value. Atkinson’s prized possession was said to be worth £3m at the time of the 2011 crash. Amazingly the Mr Bean creator managed to successfully claim a £1m payout from his insurers. The actor did suffer a shoulder injury, how much he claimed for that is unknown but Atkinson’s real pain was caused by his insurance premium jumping up to £60,000 per year as a result.

3: McLaren P1

Yet another McLaren on the list, the crash occurred in Texas this year. The P1 was being driven by a 28 year businessman who had just taken delivery of McLaren’s latest hybrid hypercar. It isn’t too surprising to find young successful businessmen able to afford such cars with a high asking price. But all young men in their 20′ have a number of common faults, a massive ego, desire to show off and the invincibility gene. It seems the P1’s 3.8 litre, twin turbo hybrid and its 916bhp proved that there is no such thing as invincibility. Only 375 P1 hypercars will be built and each one costs close too £1m.

4: Lamborghini Miura

The Lamborghini Miura was the first supercar of its age when it debuted in 1969 and 45 years later it still turns head, but its UK owner was running for the hills after it spontaneously caught fire. The Miura is known to seep petrol through the rear bulkhead and therefore catching fire on some occasions. Owners are advised to carry a fire extinguisher, it seems nothing could prevent the flames from clamping around this classic worth over £1m pounds. Only 764 models were made, thats one less Miura now.

5: Ferrari 250 GTO

5-Expensive-Crashes-A

Any Ferrari is valuable for a period of time, the most expensive of all are the classics such as the Ferrari 250 GTO, one recently sold at auction for an incredible $38 million dollars, £22m in UK money. Why is the Ferrari 250 GTO so expensive? only 39 were made from 1962 too 1964 for an FIA sanctioned race series. Most have been crashed but the GTO was never considered valuable in its time until the last 10 years or so. As more and more millionaires turn into more and more billionaires the competion naturally has more net income to spend. The GTO is considered a work of art and the people able to afford it now probably had a poster of it up on their bedroom walls that romanticism, in addition to its rarirty is why it is now so expensive. We’re not sure how much a crashed 250 GTO is worth but it is sure to be a hefty asking price to repair, or should that be restore.
