The Volkswagen Polo supermini turns on the super frugal charm with the addition of “Bluemotion” which features a revised engine map, low-rolling resistant tyres and longer gear ratios. So here it is the VW Polo Bluemotion which has finally been given a consumer friendly price for UK buyers. The new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol joins the 1.4-litre, 3-cylinder TDi engine which replaces the 1.2-litre TDi. If you think a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine is not powerful enough then perhaps a peppy 94bhp and 118Nm of torque might dissuade you from thinking otherwise.   Straightline performance is merry to miserable but at least you get a tax busting 94g/km and a claimed 62mpg. You may wish to stick with the petrol version, the 1.4 diesel has 74bhp but returns a healthy and claimed figure of 91mpg while emitting only 82g/km.
